چکیده

Long-slit observations of the blue compact galaxy Haro 2 have been performed around Hα and Hβ. The main aim of these observations was to detect the Hα emission originating in the partially ionized wind outflowing at 200 km/s, that had been previously detected with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). A shallow broadening of the Hα line wings has been observed, consistent with the existence of an expanding shell. The rotation curve shows two dips at the same systemic velocity as the nucleus. We interpret this feature as an evidence that the expanding shell is decoupled from the disk rotation. At the positions of the dips the Hα line is clearly broadened with respect to the central core. This broadening is produced by the outer layers of the expanding shell. From the position of these dips we estimate the size of the shell to be around 20 " in diameter, with a corresponding kinematical age between 5 and 6 Myr. This shell has most certainly been powered by the massive star formation process that takes place in the central region of this galaxy. A comparison of the Hα and Lyα profiles shows that Lyα is significantly broader than Hα, with an additional emission in the red wing. We interpret this redshifted source of Lyα emission as line photons backscattered by the receding part of the expanding shell. These observations outline the extremely high sensitivity of the Lyα line to the structure and kinematics of the interstellar medium (ISM). Finally the analysis of stellar Balmer lines in the Hβ region indicates that stars less massive than 10 M have probably been formed.

First Detection of Lyman Continuum Photon Escape from a Local Starburst Galaxy Observations of the Luminous Blue Compact Galaxy Haro 11 with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (fuse). I. ⋆

The dominating reionization source in the young universe has not yet been identified. Possible candidates include metal poor dwarf galaxies with starburst properties.

LWS spectroscopy of the luminous blue compact galaxy Haro 11 ?

We present the results of far infrared (FIR) spec-troscopy of the luminous blue compact galaxy (BCG) Haro 11 (ESO 350-IG38) obtained with the Long Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) on the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) in low resolution mode. This metal poor dwarf merger is an extremely hot IRAS source. We discuss the balance between dust and line cooling in the photodissociated regions (PDR), in...

Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies: Ariadne’s Thread in the Cosmic Labyrinth Tracing the star formation history of three Blue Compact galaxies through the analysis of their star clusters

We present preliminary results from a study of the compact star cluster populations in three local luminous blue compact galaxies: ESO 185-IG 013, ESO 350-IG 038 (a.k.a. Haro 11), and MRK 930. These systems show peculiar morphologies and the presence of hundreds of SCs that have been produced by the past, recent, and/or current starburst phases. We use a complete set of HST images ranging from ...

We present Spitzer observations of the blue compact dwarf galaxy (BCD) Haro 3, with an oxygen abundance of 12+log(O/H)=8.32. These data are part of a larger study of star formation and dust in low-metallicity environments. The IRS spectrum of Haro 3 shows strong narrow Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) emission, with high equivalent widths. Gaseous nebular fine-structure lines are also seen...
